Fiumicino Airport (FCO) is about 30 km from central Rome. The best option depends mainly on where you’re staying, what time you arrive, and how much luggage you have.
Fastest for central Rome: Leonardo Express
The Leonardo Express is usually the simplest choice if your destination is near Roma Termini, Rome’s main railway station.

Better for Trastevere, Ostiense, or Tiburtina: FL1 train
The regional FL1 train is useful when you are not staying near Termini.
It serves stations including Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana, and Tiburtina, with connections to other transport. The trip to Trastevere is roughly 25–30 minutes, and the fare is generally lower than the Leonardo Express—often around €8.
The FL1 does not go to Termini, so check your accommodation’s nearest station before choosing it.
Easiest with luggage: Official taxi
Official Rome taxis are white, have a roof sign, and wait at designated ranks outside the terminals. There is normally a fixed fare between Fiumicino Airport and destinations inside the Aurelian Walls, currently commonly posted at around €55, including standard supplements. Check the official tariff displayed at the taxi rank before departing.
Avoid anyone approaching you inside the terminal offering a “taxi” or private ride. Depending on traffic, the journey typically takes 40–60 minutes but can take longer during rush hour.
